Jesus Camp
Etienne and I watched a movie the other night that I would highly recommend to everyone. It's called Jesus Camp and it's a documentary about Pentecostal Evangelical Christian extremists.
The situation in the movie wasn't as shocking to me as it was to Etienne because I grew up knowing some of the things the film showed. What was more shocking to me was really understanding now the effects of extremism in children. Here, it was Christian extremism, but the same rules apply to environmentalism, conservatism, liberalism, etc.... Anytime there is an extreme and you are pushing that agenda onto young children, you are teaching them to be closed minded; you are literally taking a brain full of possibility to think about solutions to the problems of this world, and shutting those solutions out by shutting off the possibility of dialogue.
Anyway, check out the film, I know you won't regret it.
It's the exact same way with politics. You see kids grow up all the time and they have the same political views as their parents do. The reason is, the parents always talk about or bash certain political affiliations and that ends up being all the kids know. You ask the kids why they think the way they do, and they don't know. When I say kids, I mean kids growing up until they are adults. They may never have their own thoughts until they are much older.
